Travis Brickey
Travis Brickey
Social Media Lead
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)

Travis Brickey leads social media strategy for the Tennessee Valley Authority, overseeing content, engagement, analytics and real time communications across a seven state region serving more than 10 million people. He works with a team of communications professionals to develop digital strategies that inform, educate and engage audiences on topics ranging from energy and infrastructure to environmental stewardship and economic development.

During his tenure at TVA, Brickey has helped build a nationally recognized social media program that consistently exceeds industry engagement benchmarks while making complex topics, including nuclear energy, power generation and grid reliability, more accessible to the public. His work focuses on clear communication, audience trust, crisis response and using data driven insights to shape content strategy.

Before joining TVA, Brickey served as Regional Community Relations Officer for the Tennessee Department of Transportation, leading public outreach efforts across East Tennessee for major transportation projects. His work included the nationally recognized SmartFIX40 project, which required the closure and reconstruction of Interstate 40 through downtown Knoxville. As part of the extensive public awareness campaign, he helped lead outreach efforts that included partnerships with businesses, community organizations and international superstar Dolly Parton, who appeared in television ads and marketing materials to help educate the public about the project.

Prior to his career in public relations, Brickey spent more than 15 years at WBIR TV in Knoxville, working his way through several roles in the newsroom, from photojournalist and assignment manager to newsroom operations leadership. During that time, he covered the 1996 Olympic bombing in Atlanta, numerous University of Tennessee bowl games, the Volunteers’ 1998 national championship season and Super Bowl XXXIV featuring the Tennessee Titans. His experience in journalism helped shape a communications approach grounded in storytelling, audience engagement and clear, timely information.

With more than 30 years of experience in communications, public relations and media, Brickey focuses on how emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, are reshaping content discovery, audience behavior and digital engagement. He serves as Board Chair of SocialMedia.org and previously served on the Hootsuite Worldwide Product Council. He has also served on the boards of several nonprofit and community organizations.

When he’s not working, Travis enjoys traveling with his wife, Nygel, spending time with their two daughters and exploring new destinations. Recent travels have included Italy and Hawaii, though he’s always happy to find himself somewhere warm, especially Miami.
