The Volunteer Chapter By the Numbers

Did you know that the Volunteer Chapter is 103 members strong as of the end of this month? That means we’ll be represented by two voting delegates at the PRSA National Assembly in October. With that in mind, we thought it was a good time to look at our chapter by the numbers. Here are some interesting statistics we uncovered.

Our membership is primarily female (82 percent). This is higher than average. A study by Ragan.com in 2011 revealed that 73 percent of all PRSA members were female. Maybe that’s changing.

Most of our membership (60 of the 91 who reported education level) have four-year degrees. We have 28 members who are accredited in public relations (APR) and four who are in the College of Fellows. Interestingly, we have 29 members with advanced degrees which just surpasses the number of APRs.

The highest percentage of our members are employed by educational institutions, with government/military and health/medical rounding out the top three, respectively.

Clearly, we have a diverse and experienced membership base, and we plan to tap into that expertise and develop a speakers’ bureau for the chapter. If you’re interested in sharing your expertise with other members and the community, watch for more information this fall.
